· Claude Monet is a French Artist who we call an Impressionist. He is sometimes referred to as the father of Impressionism. He began his work in 1862
· The word Impressionism actually came from one of his famous paintings The Impression: Sunrise.
· He was very different in his paintings because prior to him, most paintings were done in a studio or some sort of indoor setting.
· At first he was very unpopular with the art crowd when his work first appeared, but soon after in his lifetime that changed.
· He studied art on France and did most of his work there. His art work was based mostly on outside scenery and the lighting effects.
· A lot of attention was paid to the lighting effects because Monet thought that’s what brought out the paintings beauty.

· What made his art so different from the rest at the time is the way he made his brush strokes known.
· They were very visible and noticeable, which was very different from the art work at the time.
· He made his art look precisely as what his first impression of it was
